Adventuring Acorns

Our Mission

Our mission for Adventuring Acorns is to provide a peaceful, nature-based, and interactive learning environment that empowers toddlers to feel confident and prepared for our Walking in Wellness farm/forest school program. A carefully crafted rhythm introduces old-fashioned homesteading skills while also allowing ample opportunities for child-directed, open-ended play, and bonding with caregivers in nature.

Dates & Hours

Fall 2026: Wednesdays September 3rd-October 7th

Hours: 9:45-12

Age Range

Open to 6-month olds to 3-year-olds (based on age September 1, 2024) & their caregiver

*3-year-olds can alternatively participate in the WIW Seedling drop-off class, or do acorns Wednesdays and Seedlings Tuesdays and/or Thursdays!

What to bring

- Backpack with lunch, full water bottle, and diapers/wipes/change of clothes if needed. Rain jacket and pants are recommended for rainy days but not required as there is a covered area to shelter under on wet days.

- A baby carrier is recommended. Nature walks will take place at a toddler pace but sometimes little ones aren't motivated to come back up the hill after a long morning (nature walks are a quarter mile to the play destination at most)!

*We provide a community created baked good (typically a gluten-free sourdough banana or pumpkin bread) together each week!

Our Rhythm

9:45- Morning Circle

10 - Morning Experience

10:30 - Open Play and/or Hike

11:15 - Prep baked good + Lunch

Enjoy baked good + story + closing song

*Example Morning Experiences:

- Play/Learn - open-ended play! practice threading (melissa & doug kit or stick, yarn, and

leaves), play silks/dress up, sorting colors (wooden acorn kit or peg doll cups), wrapping

sticks with yarn & decorating with nature objects, size sorting (wooden knob cylinder

block, nature scavenger hunt), nature pattern making, pincer grasp activities (picking out

seeds, arranging seeds/sticks into shapes), stacking

- Sensory Experience: Mud Kitchen, Water Play, Harvesting from garden, Play-doh,

Collecting loose parts in nature (acorns, flowers, leaves), Texture walk, Exploring

sensory bins

- Art - painting/stamping, scissor practice, watercolor, resistance

painting, finger painting, gluing practice (paper bag puppet making!), molding clay
